Housing Works

housingWorks

This one was a big one for me. I used to work down in SOHO and, on my lunch break, go into the Housing Works Bookstore to take a break from being in front of the computer and zoning away into the digital world. I would spend a decent part of my time in there looking through the old school dime store novels and just loosing myself in the covers. It was my favorite part of the the word day.

Now for those who don’t know, everyone who works there is a volunteer and all of the money generated from books sold goes to AIDS victims and the homeless.

I donated 3 copies of The Last Block in Harlem and today, when I went in there, seeing my book in a New York Bookstore that gave me so much happiness was an amazing feeling. For those of you who haven’t been to Housing Works Bookstore in SoHo, it’s just below Houston Street 1 block east of Broadway. There are not too many spots like this left in the world.

Analog is alive and well. Escape the computer and travel inside.
