Pesu finding his groove

Last night in Stuy Town at an Art Battle, I was able to check out one of my favorite artists. His name is Pesu, originally from Japan but really was born from the Hip Hop world that many of us have gravitated to because it is the only place where we can find the diversity, realness and acceptance that eludes us in the real world.

Art battles pit artists against each other in a limited time. Starting with a blank canvass, a DJ in the background, and gathering crowds cheering their favorite on, it’s a fantastic was to enjoy life in the analog world and engage in true interactivity.

While others were going off of pictures, Pesu let's it go from his mind.

The Kids cannot take their eyes of either Pesu or his work. On his arm a Tattoo reads "Life is Art." The moment reflects the ability to create reality through action.

Like his work, the story of the man and his journey to get to this point is inspiring and moving. I have heard recently that great work is out there in the universe and is waiting to be put into the world by those chosen to bring it forth. I believe this man is one of those artists. When you see his work, you know who was on the other end of the brush.

Before he blows up and is out of reach, you’re going to want to be a part of his rise.

One of the great joys of selling books the way I do is the people I meet along the way. When I met Zoe Dille in Central Park and she purchased a copy of The Last Block in Harlem, little did I know the amazing gifts she would exchange with me in return. She let me know of her father, Lutz Dille, an amazing street photographer in his day.

When I visited the link she sent me it took me to the perspective I most enjoy in photography: images of people being themselves. In my books, I try to accomplish what a camera can do: capture a moment and try to allow the viewer to imagine the history and future of that moment. I could never do it with a camera, but still black and white images are my favorite to look it.

Lutz Dille has the eye that I most enjoy – he must have been an amazing man because the subjects of his photographs seems to be very at ease in letting him in to their world.

I don’t know much about photography composition or technical terms – I am like most folks in that I know what I enjoy and what captures my soul. These images do that and the world will be thankful for the documentation of this work. Please visit bulgergallery.com to discover this artist for yourself.

This is what happens when you speak with people.
