Baltimore Book Festival
What a fantastic time in Baltimore. Got to meet Troy Johnson and speak on a panel with fellow authors and publishers who are attempting to change the way the publishing industry promotes its authors. The main focus was not just on self-promotion, but on creating yourself as the brand. The main thought process running through the entire discussion was the fact that you need to push yourself harder then anyone is going to push for you.
Being on the streets of NYC every day walking around hustling The Last Block in Harlem, it was a nice change of pace to sit down with folks and really listen to how they were making it happen for themselves.
In the coming days I’ll cut the video together and post some clips up. Amazing time in B more though – a city under construction with attempts to define itself.
The Weekend Street Hustle.
Before the Rain..
Pesu and Yaz invade Madison Ave.
To keep everyone up to date on the goings on of PESU and the OLD Soulz crew, this rainy day has given me a moment to post some pics from last night on Madison Ave.
At the Coach store, during the madness of Fashion Night Out, in which pretty much every store that sells clothes throws a parties that include live models in windows, flowing drinks, and a night that seems like a movie premier that never ends, Pesu and YAZ once again pushed the limits of art in the mostly corporate fashion world.
Keeping with his LIVE PAINT roots, PESU was doing live, custom paintings on COACH bags for those lucky enough to find spot in line. These original works of art will be displayed by women walking the streets of NYC and wherever they choose to travel, keeping the motif of creating art that can survive on any street and any time.
From painting battles, the murals, you never know where a PESU joint is going to show up.
Adding to the scene fresh from his studio with paint still on his jeans, was RIZ 22, shaking hands and receiving the respect this amazing artist is more than due. I met RIZ and PESU together and have a colab piece of their hanging in the halls of our place. Word is the two of them are Tokyo bound, so stay tuned to their site for more info.
The fact is that wherever the OLD SOULZ art crew goes, the throngs of followers and collectors grows because each piece is done in front of them and made, to a certain extent, for the moment it was created.
On the way..

This guy was the tenth of the day. He handed me $15 - told him it was only ten but he said, "It's worth 15" New York is kind.
